NDBS awarded Social Funding by Celestial Green Ventures.

July 10th, 2014

The North Dublin befriending service has recently been awarded funding as part of the first ever Social Funding Programme run by Celestial Green Ventures. This funding will be used towards putting on a number of social events for NDBS members throughout the summer, the first of which was a barbeque on the 3rd of July.

Every year NDBS goes on a week-long respite holiday in Bundoran. But some members are unable to come on holiday, for a variety of reasons. This funding will allow NDBS to put on a number of day trips & events to ensure that everyone has a fun, active & social summer. As well as the barbeque, the events include a tour of Wild Wicklow, a cruise of Donegal bay, a cruise of Dublin bay, a Viking Splash tour, and a trip down to Fota Island Wildlife Park in Cork.

Director of NDBS Jonathan MacCumhaill-BinRosli and NDBS co-ordinator Ann Devoy-Kelly attended a reception at the offices of Celestial Green Ventures to collect the cheque & a commemorative plaque. Overall, more than 100 organisations applied to the Social Funding Programme, but only 5 were offered funding. Speaking to the representatives of the selected projects, guest judge Noel Griffin said “Over 100 applications is amazing, so I hope you’re proud, and you deserve to be proud of what you’re doing. I really believe it’s an achievement to be sitting here”.

Speaking on how the funding will impact the befriendees, Ann Devoy-Kelly said “It’s really going to make a difference to their summer. They’ll have something to look forward to, and they’ll have a great time”.
